Terms of service

Whatafile converts files between formats in your browser. You upload a file, we route it through the tools needed to produce your target format, and you download the result. That is the entire product.

We may add, remove, or change individual format pairs as tools improve or fall out of use. We will not remove a pair you rely on without a reasonable amount of notice on the tool page itself.

Use Whatafile for files you have the right to convert. Do not use it to process content that is illegal to possess or distribute, or to attempt to break, overload, or reverse engineer the service.

We reserve the right to block accounts or IP addresses that abuse the free tier, run automated scraping against the tool pages, or otherwise interfere with the service for other users.

You keep all rights to the files you upload and the files we produce from them. We claim no ownership over your content, at any point in the process.

Files and their converted results are deleted within one hour of the job finishing, whether or not you download the result. See the privacy policy for exactly what we touch along the way.

We aim for the service to be available whenever you need it, but we do not promise 100% uptime. Maintenance, upstream tool outages, or unusual load can occasionally take a tool offline — the tool page will say so rather than fail silently.

The free plan covers a limited number of conversions and file size per day, with no account required. Paid plans lift those limits and are billed monthly or annually, in advance, through our payment processor.

Prices are shown before you subscribe and will not change mid-cycle. We will email you at least 30 days before any price increase takes effect on renewal.

Cancel a paid plan at any time from your account settings. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for; we do not prorate refunds for the unused portion of a cycle, except where required by law.

We grade every conversion pair honestly, but conversion between formats is inherently lossy for some content — fonts, macros, and complex layout are the usual casualties. Check the grade before you rely on a result for something important.

To the extent permitted by law, Whatafile is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new “last updated” date; continuing to use Whatafile after a change means you accept the update.
