We built a converter that refuses to lie to you.
Most conversion sites show a spinner and hope. We show the route first — which tools your file will pass through, what usually survives the trip, and what does not — before you commit to anything. If a pair loses its footnotes or flattens its layers, we say so on the tool page, not in a support email three days later.
Underneath, Whatafile is a routing graph: 15 formats, 210 pairs, and roughly 75 tools that do the actual conversion work. When there is no direct hop between two formats, we chain the shortest honest path between them and grade the result — Exact, Good, or Lossy — so you know before you spend the click.
Every file you upload, and everything we produce from it, is deleted within an hour, automatically. We do not keep a backlog of “just in case” files, and we do not want one.
You can use every tool without an account. Sign up only if you want history, bigger files, or fewer daily limits — never because we made the free path deliberately annoying.
