Screenshots to PDF without blur

To change PNG to PDF, select or drop your PNG on this page, pick a Page size and press Convert to PDF. You get a one-page PDF named after the picture, so chart.png becomes chart.pdf.

Screenshots are usually PNGs, so this is a quick way to save a screenshot to PDF for a report or a form. With Keep every pixel, the choice the page starts on, the pixels go into the PDF unchanged, so small text stays as crisp as it was on screen.

Going the other way? Convert PDF to PNG to turn each page of a PDF into an image. If a form asks for a JPG rather than a PDF, convert PNG to JPG instead.

What you are starting with

Lossless pixels with transparency. Screenshots, logos, anything with an edge.

What you are getting

A page, frozen. Looks identical everywhere, resists editing everywhere.

Worth knowing

The image is placed on a PDF page. Transparent areas turn white.

Good to know about converting PNG to PDF

  • No quality loss unless you pick Save as JPG: the PNG's pixels go into the PDF unchanged, so text in a screenshot stays crisp.
  • Transparent areas become white, since a PDF page has a white background.
  • On A4 (the default) or US Letter the image is scaled to fit inside a 10 mm margin and centred. Fit to picture makes the page exactly the size of the image.

Page size, margin and orientation

A4 and US Letter put the PNG inside a fixed 10 mm margin, scaled up or down to fit and centred, keeping its shape. Orientation is Auto unless you change it: a wide picture gets a landscape page, and a tall or square one a portrait page.

Fit to picture makes the page the size of the PNG, with no margin, at the resolution saved in the file, or at 96 pixels per inch when it has none. For a margin of your choice, from 0 to 30 mm, use JPG to PDF.

A smaller PDF for a photo saved as PNG

A photo saved as PNG makes a big PDF, because every pixel is kept. Under Pictures in the PDF, pick Save as JPG and the page is stored as a JPG at the quality you choose under Compress the pictures, Balanced or Smaller. In our test a 1600 × 1067 photo-like PNG made a 3.5 MB PDF with every pixel kept and a 189 KB one as JPG at Balanced.

For a screenshot, keep every pixel. JPG softens small text, and a picture with large flat areas does not get smaller: our test screenshot of text gave 94 KB kept and 108 KB as JPG. See-through areas turn white either way.

Several PNGs in one PDF

This page makes one PDF for each PNG. Add up to 100 at a time, and with two or more, Download all (ZIP) saves every PDF at once.

To combine PNG files into one PDF, use JPG to PDF. It takes PNGs too, lets you drag them into order and makes one PDF of them all.

Other single pictures have pages of their own: convert TIFF to PDF, convert WebP to PDF, convert GIF to PDF or convert SVG to PDF.

PNG to PDF on a Mac or Windows PC

There is nothing to install. This PNG to PDF converter runs in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, so the steps are the same on a Mac and on a Windows PC. The PNG stays on your computer, unless your browser cannot handle a picture and you choose Convert on our server instead.
