A picture saved from a website, as a PDF

To convert WebP to PDF, drop your .webp file on this page or pick it with Select WebP file, choose a Page size and press Convert to PDF. You get a one-page PDF with the picture on it, named after the file: offer.webp becomes offer.pdf.

Websites often serve their pictures as WebP, so an image you save from a page can land on your computer as a .webp file that a form, a printer or a colleague will not take. This WebP to PDF converter is free, works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and builds the PDF on your own device. The picture is not uploaded, unless your browser cannot read it and you choose Convert on our server instead.

Want an image file rather than a page? Convert WebP to PNG: every pixel is kept and a see-through background stays see-through. Going the other way, convert PDF to WebP to turn each page of a PDF into a WebP picture.

What you are starting with

The web’s efficient format. Smaller than JPEG, refused by older software.

What you are getting

A page, frozen. Looks identical everywhere, resists editing everywhere.

Worth knowing

The picture is placed on a PDF page without further loss. Transparent areas turn white.

Page size and layout

Page size starts on A4 and Orientation on Auto, which gives a picture that is wider than tall a landscape page and any other picture a portrait one. Choose Portrait or Landscape to decide for yourself. On A4 (210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (216 × 279 mm) the picture is scaled to fit inside a 10 mm margin and centred, keeping its shape. In our tests:

  • a 1600 × 1067 photo went onto a landscape A4 page, 277 mm wide between the margins;
  • a 900 × 1600 phone screenshot went onto a portrait A4 page, 277 mm tall;
  • with Portrait chosen, the same photo sat across the middle of an upright page, 190 mm wide.

Fit to picture makes the page the size of the picture, with no margin. The page does not read a print resolution from a WebP, so it counts 96 pixels per inch: a 400 × 300 picture gives a page of 106 × 79 mm.

Quality, transparency and text

This pair is graded Picture-perfect. With Keep every pixel, the choice the page starts on, the WebP is decoded once and stored in the PDF with lossless compression, so nothing more is lost on the way: in our tests every pixel inside the PDF matched the WebP, at its full size. A lossy WebP keeps the softness it picked up when it was first saved, though, and converting cannot bring that detail back.

See-through areas are filled with white, so a logo on a transparent background sits on a white page. An animated WebP gives a single page showing its first frame.

Words in the picture stay part of the picture. You can read them in the PDF, but you cannot select, search or copy them. To get the words out, Image to Text reads English text from a WebP and gives it back as text you can copy: in our test it read every line of a screenshot.

Small pictures on a big page

On A4 or US Letter a small picture is scaled up to fill the space inside the margin. Our 400 × 300 test logo was stretched to 253 mm wide, so each of its pixels covered about 0.6 mm of paper, and it looks soft or blocky when you zoom in or print it. For a small picture, choose Fit to picture: the page then matches the picture instead.

Why the PDF is bigger than the WebP

A lossy WebP throws detail away to stay small. Unless you pick Save as JPG, the PDF keeps every decoded pixel with lossless compression, so it comes out bigger than the WebP, and for a photo many times bigger.

Our test pictures as WebP files and as the PDFs made on this page
Test pictureWebPPDF
Photo-like picture with fine grain, 1600 × 1067188 KB3.5 MB
Phone screenshot of text, 900 × 160044 KB202 KB
Logo on a transparent background, 400 × 3001.6 KB5.2 KB

Need a smaller file for an upload limit or an email? Under Pictures in the PDF, pick Save as JPG instead of Keep every pixel, and the page is stored as a JPG at the quality you choose under Compress the pictures. In our test the photo-like picture then made a 189 KB PDF at Balanced, about the size of its WebP, and a 94 KB one at Smaller, at the cost of the slight loss that saving any JPG brings.

JPG suits photos. It softens small text and sharp edges, so for a screenshot or a logo leave the choice on Keep every pixel. See-through areas turn white either way.

Several WebP pictures in one PDF

This page makes one PDF for each WebP. Add up to 100 files at a time, and when two or more are done, Download all (ZIP) saves every PDF together.

To put several pictures into one PDF, use JPG to PDF. Despite its name it takes WebP files, up to 200 pictures in the order you drag them, and it lets you set the margin from 0 to 30 mm. Our three test WebPs made a single three-page PDF there.

Other kinds of picture have pages of their own: convert TIFF to PDF for scans, where every page of the TIFF becomes a page of the PDF, convert SVG to PDF for drawings, and convert GIF to PDF.

Questions people ask

How do I convert WebP to PDF?

Drop the WebP on this page, or pick it with Select WebP file; it stays on your device. Leave Page size on A4 or choose US Letter or Fit to picture, press Convert to PDF, then save the PDF, which is named after your file.

Can I put several WebP images in one PDF?

Not on this page, which makes a separate PDF for each WebP. JPG to PDF takes WebP files as well and puts up to 200 pictures into one PDF, one picture per page, in the order you drag them.

Why does my small picture look soft on the PDF page?

On A4 and US Letter the picture is stretched to fill the page inside a 10 mm margin, however small it is. A 400 × 300 WebP ends up 253 mm wide, roughly 40 pixels per inch. Choose Fit to picture and the page is made the size of the picture instead.

Can I copy the words from my WebP once it is a PDF?

No. The picture goes onto the page as pixels, so the words in it cannot be selected, searched or copied. Image to Text reads English text from a WebP and gives it back as text you can copy.

Why is the PDF so much bigger than my WebP?

The WebP was squeezed with compression that drops detail, while the PDF keeps every pixel without loss unless you pick Save as JPG. In our test a 188 KB photo-like WebP made a 3.5 MB PDF. With Save as JPG at Balanced, the same picture made a 189 KB PDF.

Can I convert an animated WebP to PDF?

Yes, but you get one PDF page showing its first frame; the other frames are left out. To keep the animation, convert the WebP to GIF instead, which keeps every frame and its timing.

Is converting WebP to PDF free?

Yes, and there is no daily limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run.

What happens to my files?

Nothing leaves your device. The WebP is read and the PDF is made inside your browser, so there is nothing on our servers to delete.

Will the PDF look exactly like the WebP?

This pair grades as “Picture-perfect”. We show the exact route and that grade before you convert, so there are no surprises about what survives the trip.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Pick or drop a file here, it is converted in your browser, and you save the result.

How large can my file be?

As large as your browser can handle: pictures up to about 90 megapixels on a typical computer, less on a phone.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 files at a time and they convert one after another on your device.
