What the PDF holds
To convert GIF to PDF, select or drop your GIF on this page, choose a Page size and press Convert to PDF. You get a one-page PDF named after the file: party.gif becomes party.pdf. This GIF to PDF converter is free and works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and the GIF stays on your computer, unless your browser cannot read it and you choose Convert on our server instead.
A PDF page holds one still picture, so an animated GIF gives its first frame and the rest are left out. Our three-frame test GIF became a one-page PDF showing frame one. That also keeps the file small: a 12-frame clip of 2.2 MB gave a PDF of 228 KB.
With Keep every pixel, the choice the page starts on, the frame goes in with lossless compression. Every pixel in our test PDFs matched the GIF, which is why the pair is graded Picture-perfect. See-through areas turn white, so a logo on a clear background sits on a white page. Words in the GIF stay part of the picture: you can read them, but not select or search them.

256 colours and a loop. Old, limited, immortal.
A page, frozen. Looks identical everywhere, resists editing everywhere.

A4, US Letter or Fit to picture
Page size starts on A4 and Orientation on Auto, which gives a GIF wider than it is tall a landscape page and any other GIF a portrait one. On A4 and US Letter the picture is scaled to fill the space inside a 10 mm margin, keeping its shape, and centred. In our tests:
- a 480 × 270 GIF went onto a landscape A4 page (297 × 210 mm), 277 mm wide;
- with Portrait chosen, the same GIF sat 190 mm wide across an upright A4 page;
- on US Letter it got a 279 × 216 mm page and was 259 mm wide.
Fit to picture makes the page the size of the GIF, with no margin, and hides Orientation. A GIF stores no print size, so the page counts 96 pixels per inch: 480 × 270 pixels gave a page of 127 × 71 mm.
A GIF made from a photo can still give a big PDF. Under Pictures in the PDF, Save as JPG stores the frame as a JPG at the quality you choose under Compress the pictures, Balanced or Smaller: our 1600 × 1067 photo-like GIF made a 748 KB PDF with every pixel kept and a 211 KB one as JPG at Balanced. For a logo, a sticker or a drawing in flat colours, keep every pixel: JPG blurs sharp edges, and our flat-colour test GIF came out bigger as JPG, not smaller.
Every frame, or several GIFs, in one PDF
This page makes one PDF per GIF. Add up to 100 at a time, and with two or more, Download all (ZIP) saves every PDF at once. To put several GIFs into a single PDF, use JPG to PDF: despite its name it takes GIFs, up to 200 pictures in the order you drag them. It also uses only the first frame of an animation.
To give each frame of an animation its own page:
- Open the GIF in GIF to frames, press Save frames, then Save all as ZIP.
- Unzip it. Our three-frame GIF gave dance_0001.png, dance_0002.png and dance_0003.png.
- Add those pictures to JPG to PDF and press Make PDF. Ours became one three-page PDF, frames in order.
Other pictures have pages of their own: convert WebP to PDF, convert TIFF to PDF for a scan with several pages, or convert SVG to PDF for a drawing. Going the other way, convert PDF to GIF to turn the pages of a PDF into one animated GIF.
Questions people ask
How do I turn a GIF into a PDF?
Select or drop the GIF on this page; it stays on your device. Choose A4, US Letter or Fit to picture, press Convert to PDF and save the PDF, which is named after your GIF.
Does an animated GIF stay animated in the PDF?
No. A PDF page shows one still picture, so you get the first frame. To keep every frame, save them with GIF to frames, then put the pictures into one PDF with JPG to PDF, one frame per page.
Can I merge several GIF files into a single PDF?
Not on this page, which makes one PDF per GIF. JPG to PDF takes GIFs too and puts up to 200 pictures into one PDF, in the order you drag them. An animated GIF gives its first frame there as well.
What page size will my GIF to PDF file use?
A4, unless you choose US Letter or Fit to picture. Orientation Auto follows the shape of the GIF, and on A4 and US Letter the picture fills the space inside a 10 mm margin. Fit to picture makes the page the size of the GIF, at 96 pixels per inch.
Does the GIF lose quality inside the PDF?
Not unless you pick Save as JPG under Pictures in the PDF. With Keep every pixel, the choice the page starts on, the frame is stored without loss, and every pixel in our test PDFs matched the GIF, so the pair is graded Picture-perfect. Two things change: see-through areas turn white, and a small GIF stretched across a page looks blocky.
Is converting GIF to PDF free?
Yes, and there is no daily limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run.
What happens to my files?
Nothing leaves your device. The GIF is read and the PDF is made inside your browser, so there is nothing on our servers to delete.
Will the PDF look exactly like the GIF?
This pair grades as “Picture-perfect”. We show the exact route and that grade before you convert, so there are no surprises about what survives the trip.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Pick or drop a file here, it is converted in your browser, and you save the result.
How large can my file be?
As large as your browser can handle: pictures up to about 90 megapixels on a typical computer, less on a phone.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Add up to 100 files at a time and they convert one after another on your device.
