What your PDF page will look like

To convert SVG to PDF, select or drop your SVG on this page and press Convert to PDF. You get a one-page PDF named after the file, so logo.svg becomes logo.pdf. This free SVG to PDF converter works in your browser, so the SVG is never uploaded. Page size and Orientation are the only settings.

  • The page is A4 unless you pick US Letter or Fit to picture. With Orientation on Auto it is portrait for a tall or square drawing and landscape for a wide one; Portrait and Landscape force the direction.
  • On A4 and US Letter a 10 mm margin runs round the edge, and the drawing is enlarged or shrunk to fill the space inside it, keeping its shape, and centred. Fit to picture makes the page the size the SVG gives, with no margin.
  • Any part of the SVG that is see-through turns white, the colour of the page.

In our tests a drawing 600 pixels wide and 300 high landed on a landscape page, and one 200 wide and 400 high on a portrait page, each centred with the 10 mm margin on its nearest edges. For a different margin, use JPG to PDF, which takes SVG files too.

What you are starting with

Drawing instructions, not pixels. Scales to a billboard without blurring.

What you are getting

A page, frozen. Looks identical everywhere, resists editing everywhere.

Worth knowing

The result looks right down to the pixel, but text stops being text and drawings stop being vectors.

Vector or picture: what changes in the PDF

The Worth knowing card above says it plainly: the result looks right, but text stops being text and drawings stop being vectors. That comes from the route, SVG to PNG to PDF. Your browser first draws the SVG as a picture, with enough pixels to print sharp at the size it fills, and that picture is then placed on the page. Our guide to raster vs vector explains why that matters.

Words in the drawing become part of the picture, so they cannot be selected, searched or copied. Our test SVG with the words Hello vector gave a PDF with no text in it at all. If you need those words, Image to Text reads the English text in an SVG so you can copy it; unlike this page, it does the reading on our server.

Why even a small icon prints sharp

On an A4 or US Letter page the drawing gets enough pixels for about 300 dots per inch, the figure usually wanted for print: at least 3,272 on its long side, however small the SVG says it is. An icon set to 24 by 24 pixels became a 3,272 × 3,272 picture, so its edges stay smooth when you zoom in on the PDF. A drawing that already asks for more pixels keeps its own, up to 8,192 on the long side.

On a Fit to picture page the page is the size the SVG gives, at 96 pixels to the inch, and the drawing is drawn at 300 dots per inch for that size. A phone that reports little memory gets fewer pixels, but never fewer than the SVG asks for.

When the PDF must stay vector

If the PDF is for a print shop, a plotter or a cutting machine that needs the shapes themselves, this page is the wrong tool: save the PDF from the drawing program the SVG came from instead. Photos and web fonts the SVG links to from elsewhere are not loaded here either, so embed them before you export. The other direction does keep vectors: convert PDF to SVG and our server draws each page as shapes.

Putting several drawings in one PDF

To batch convert SVG to PDF, add up to 100 SVG files at once. They are converted one after another on your device, and each becomes its own one-page PDF named after it. Save them one by one, or press Download all (ZIP) to get every PDF in one file, whatafile-converted.zip.

For a single PDF with a page per drawing, use JPG to PDF, listed under Related conversions. Despite the name it takes SVG files, up to 200 pictures in one PDF, in the order you drag them into, on A4, US Letter or Fit to picture pages. In our test two SVGs became one two-page PDF, each drawing on its own A4 page.

Need a picture rather than a page? Convert SVG to PNG and the see-through background stays see-through instead of turning white. Other single pictures go onto PDF pages the same way: convert TIFF to PDF for a scan, where every page of the TIFF becomes a page of the PDF; convert WebP to PDF for a picture saved from a website; or convert GIF to PDF, which places the first frame of an animation.

Questions people ask

How do I convert SVG to PDF?

Select or drop your SVG on this page; it stays on your device. Check the route, SVG to PNG to PDF, and its Picture-perfect grade, then press Convert to PDF and download the PDF. Add up to 100 SVG files to convert several at once.

Will the PDF still be a vector file?

No. The SVG is drawn as a PNG picture first, then placed on the page, so the PDF holds pixels: shapes stop being vectors and text stops being text. It looks right, but it will not scale like the SVG. For a vector PDF, save it from the program the drawing was made in.

What page size is the PDF?

A4 unless you choose US Letter or Fit to picture under Page size. On A4 and US Letter the drawing is scaled to fit inside a 10 mm margin and centred, portrait or landscape by its shape unless you set Orientation. Fit to picture makes the page the size of the drawing. JPG to PDF, which also takes SVG files, adds a margin from 0 to 30 mm.

Can I put several SVG files into one PDF?

Not on this page, which makes one PDF per SVG and can save them together with Download all (ZIP). JPG to PDF takes SVG files too and puts up to 200 pictures into one PDF, one per page, in the order you choose.

Can I select the text in the PDF?

No. Text in the SVG is drawn into the picture, so the PDF has no text to select, search or copy. To get the words out, Image to Text reads English text in an SVG on our server and shows it for you to copy.

Is converting SVG to PDF free?

Yes, and there is no daily limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run.

What happens to my files?

Nothing leaves your device. The SVG is read and the PDF is made inside your browser, so there is nothing on our servers to delete.

Will the PDF look exactly like the SVG?

This pair grades as “Picture-perfect”. We show the exact route and that grade before you convert, so there are no surprises about what survives the trip.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Pick or drop a file here, it is converted in your browser, and you save the result.

How large can my file be?

As large as your browser can handle: pictures up to about 90 megapixels on a typical computer, less on a phone.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 files at a time and they convert one after another on your device.
