Why turn a Word page into a JPG
To convert Word to JPEG, select or drop your .docx or .doc file here, choose a Resolution and an Image quality, and press Convert to JPEG. The same steps cover DOCX to JPG and DOC to JPG, and every page of the document comes back as a picture of its own: one JPG for a one-page file, or a ZIP of pages, in order, for anything longer.
People turn Word to JPG when a page has to travel as a picture: an upload form or a website that only takes images, one page to share in a chat, or a quick look at a document for someone who has no Word. JPG opens almost everywhere, which makes it the usual pick for a Word to image job. Pictures in the document come through as they sit on the page, and each JPG is the whole page, margins included.
The trade-off is that the page becomes flat. JPG compresses the picture, so sharp edges such as letters pick up a slight fuzz, and the words can no longer be selected or edited. When the text must stay text, keep the text selectable as a PDF instead.

Modern Word. The default way the working world writes things down.
Photographs, compressed. Small files, no transparency, slight fuzz.
JPEG compresses the picture and has no transparency, so fine detail is lost. It looks right at normal size.
Good to know about converting DOCX to JPEG
- A one-page document gives a single JPEG. A longer one gives a ZIP named after the document, with its pages in order: report.docx gives report-p001.jpg, report-p002.jpg and so on.
- At the default 150 DPI a US Letter page comes out 1275 × 1650 pixels. Choose 300 DPI for print, 96 DPI for screens.
- The page is laid out first, with free fonts of the same widths as Calibri, Arial and Times New Roman.
- Text in the pictures cannot be selected or edited. Keep the Word file for that.
Resolution and image quality
The Word to JPG converter gives you two settings. Resolution, in dots per inch (DPI), decides how many pixels each page gets: 96, 150 or 300 DPI, with 150 as the default. Image quality decides how hard each picture is squeezed: Smaller, Balanced (the default) or Best. Raise either and the page gets sharper and the file bigger. We converted one US Letter page packed with text at every setting:
| Resolution | Pixels | Smaller | Balanced | Best |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 96 DPI | 816 × 1056 | 160 KB | 214 KB | 356 KB |
| 150 DPI (default) | 1275 × 1650 | 308 KB | 413 KB | 689 KB |
| 300 DPI | 2550 × 3300 | 857 KB | 1,132 KB | 1,871 KB |
A lighter page, a heading and three short paragraphs, came out at 154 KB at the default settings. An A4 page is a little narrower and taller than Letter: 1241 × 1754 pixels at 150 DPI.
- 96 DPI suits pages that will only be read on a screen.
- 150 DPI suits most sharing: chats, email and web forms.
- 300 DPI is for printing, or for small print someone will zoom into.
- Balanced suits most pages, Best keeps more detail, and Smaller is for strict size limits, such as a form that caps each upload.
Long documents, old .doc files and fonts
When you convert Word to JPG here, your file is laid out as a PDF first, and then each page is drawn as a JPG, just as when you turn a PDF into JPGs. Anything longer than one page arrives as a single ZIP, and the done screen tells you how many pictures are inside. The pages carry three-digit numbers, so page 10 still sorts after page 9 in any folder.
The page limit is 100 per document. Since a Word file has no fixed pages until it is laid out, a longer one is stopped at that point, and the message gives its page count so you know where to split it. A whole document counts as one of your three free conversions a day, however long it is.
Old Word 97 files (.doc) work the same way as .docx, with no need to resave them first. Microsoft's fonts are not on our server, so free fonts of the same widths stand in for Calibri, Arial and Times New Roman, and text takes the same room as in Word. Aptos, Word's default font since 2023, has no free twin: it is drawn in Liberation Sans, so a line can wrap a little differently.
A PowerPoint deck, a web page or a plain text file can become pictures the same way: convert PowerPoint to JPG gives one picture per slide, convert HTML to JPG lays an .html file out on A4 pages first, and convert text to JPG sets a .txt file on A4 pages in a fixed-width font.
JPG or PNG for a Word page
Both formats give you a picture of each page, but they store it differently. JPG throws away a little fine detail to save space, which shows as a faint haze around letters and lines. PNG is lossless: every pixel stays exactly as it was drawn.
For a page of words, PNG costs no extra space. In our tests at 150 DPI, the short page of text was 154 KB as a Balanced JPG and 149 KB as a PNG, and the full page 413 KB against 416 KB. A page with a large photo turned the result around: 146 KB as a JPG against 667 KB as a PNG.
So for letters, forms, CVs and other pages that are mostly text, save the pages as PNG instead. Pick JPG when the page carries photos, or when the site you are sending it to asks for JPG.
Questions people ask
How do I convert a Word document to JPG?
Press Select Word file, or drop the .docx or .doc anywhere on this page. Keep 150 DPI and Balanced, or pick other settings, then press Convert to JPEG. When it finishes, download the JPG, or the ZIP if the document has more than one page. Your file and its pictures are deleted 24 hours later.
Can I get just one page of my Word document as a JPG?
Every page is converted. For a longer document they come in a ZIP, numbered in order, so take the page you need from it.
Can I convert a .doc file to JPG?
Yes. The page takes both Word formats, the older .doc and the current .docx, and converts them the same way. There is no need to save a .doc as .docx first.
What size will the JPG pages be?
At the default 150 DPI a US Letter page comes out 1275 × 1650 pixels and an A4 page 1241 × 1754. Choose 300 DPI to double both for print, or 96 DPI for screens. A full page of text came to about 413 KB at the default settings in our tests.
Can I edit the text in the JPG?
No. Each page is saved as a picture, so its words cannot be selected or edited. Keep the Word file for changes. If the picture is all you have left, turn a photo of text back into Word: the words are read from the picture and can be misread, so check names and numbers afterwards.
Is converting Word to JPG free?
Yes. Up to 25 MB and three conversions a day are free, with no account. Pro and Business lift the file limit to 100 MB and remove the daily cap.
What happens to my files?
Both your Word and the JPG we produce are deleted 24 hours after each conversion, automatically. Try again and Continue to another tool start a new conversion, with its own 24 hours. Nothing is used for training and no human looks at your documents.
Will the JPG look exactly like the Word?
This pair grades as “Very good”. We show the exact route and that grade before you convert, so there are no surprises about what survives the trip.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Nothing to install. Pick or drop a file here, it's converted on our servers, and you download the result.
How large can my file be?
25 MB on the free plan, and 100 MB on Pro and Business.
Can I convert several files at once?
On Pro and Business, yes: add up to 100 files before converting. The free plan converts one file at a time.
