Social media video sizes, as each platform's own help pages gave them on 22 October 2026: TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are vertical, and a 9:16 frame of 1080 × 1920 pixels suits all three. A standard YouTube video is 16:9, such as 1920 × 1080. LinkedIn accepts shapes from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, and X from 1:2.39 to 2.39:1.
Length limits vary far more than shapes: from 140 seconds on a free X account to 3 minutes for a YouTube Short, 30 minutes for a TikTok uploaded on the web and 60 minutes for one uploaded in the TikTok app. Each figure links to the help page it came from. For pictures, see our guide to social media image sizes.

Vertical video: TikTok, Reels and Shorts
A 9:16 frame fills a phone held upright. At 1080 × 1920 pixels it is above every minimum these three platforms give, so one file can serve all three.
TikTok video size and length limit
TikTok's help page on creator tools gives the TikTok video length limit for an upload in TikTok Studio on the web: up to 30 minutes, as an MP4 or WebM file of 720 × 1280 or higher and less than 10 GB. It adds that some features vary by region or need you to meet certain criteria, so your own upload screen has the final word.
The TikTok app allows longer uploads. TikTok's help page on camera tools says videos you upload in TikTok can be up to 60 minutes long, and videos you record in TikTok up to 10 minutes. If you pick a sound first, the length of the sound sets the length of the video. These are the limits TikTok publishes. We have not tested them on an account, and your own account may show less.
For the shape, TikTok's specifications for In-Feed adverts recommend vertical 9:16 video of at least 540 × 960 pixels, and also take square and 16:9. An app that posts for you is held to 10 minutes, says TikTok's guide for developers.
Instagram Reels dimensions and length
Instagram's page on reel size and aspect ratios says you can upload a reel in any shape from 1.91:1 to 9:16, with a minimum frame rate of 30 frames per second and a minimum resolution of 720 pixels. Wide, square, 4:5 and full-screen reels all fit.
For Instagram Reels dimensions that fill the screen, use 9:16: 1080 × 1920 pixels is well above that minimum. Meta's ads guide for Reels recommends 1440 × 2560 for adverts, the same shape with more pixels.
Instagram's page on recording a reel allows reels of up to 20 minutes, in one clip or several, but notes that reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences. To reach people who do not follow you yet, stay at 3 minutes or less.
To make a reel this size, resize a video for TikTok. The page opens on the 9:16 vertical tile, 1080 × 1920, labelled TikTok, Reels, Shorts, so one file suits a reel, a TikTok and a Short.
YouTube Shorts size and length
YouTube's page on uploading Shorts asks for a video of up to three minutes with a square or vertical aspect ratio. It gives no pixel size, so a 9:16 file made for TikTok or Reels works as a Short if it runs 3 minutes or less.
Square and portrait feed video
Square (1:1) and portrait (4:5) videos play inside a feed rather than filling the screen. On a phone they take up more of the screen than a wide 16:9 clip, and Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X all accept both shapes.
Instagram feed video size
Square and 4:5 both sit inside the 1.91:1 to 9:16 range Instagram gives for reels. To make either, resize a video for Instagram: the page opens on the 1:1 square tile at 1080 × 1080, and the 4:5 portrait tile at 1080 × 1350 is one tap away.
Facebook video size
Facebook changed its rules in June 2025, when the Videos tab became the Reels tab. Meta's page on requirements for Facebook Reels says every video posted to Facebook is now shared as a reel, and reels can be any length or orientation. It recommends an MP4 file at 1080p, at 24 to 60 frames per second.
Shape still matters for being found: Meta's best practices for Facebook Reels say to use vertical video and to avoid horizontal reels and reels uploaded with a border. For a feed advert, Meta's ads guide for Facebook Feed video recommends 4:5 at 1440 × 1800 pixels, up to 4 GB.
LinkedIn video size
LinkedIn's page on video sharing troubleshooting sets wide limits for a video in a post: any shape from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, between 256 × 144 and 4096 × 2304 pixels, from 75 KB to 5 GB, and from 3 seconds (2 from the mobile app) to 15 minutes long.
A LinkedIn Page is stricter. LinkedIn's video specifications for Pages cap a video at 10 minutes and say Pages no longer support AVI, QuickTime or MOV files. Our resizer always saves an MP4, so resizing a MOV for a Page also fixes the format.
Landscape video: YouTube and X
YouTube's page on video resolution and aspect ratios gives 16:9 as the standard aspect ratio on a computer. Its recommended 16:9 sizes run from 426 × 240 to 7680 × 4320, including 1280 × 720 (720p), 1920 × 1080 (1080p) and 3840 × 2160 (4K).
Other shapes still play: for a 9:16 video in a computer browser, YouTube may add padding of its own, and the same page advises against adding padding or black bars to the video yourself. A vertical clip of 3 minutes or less can simply go up as a Short.
Uploads can run to 15 minutes by default. YouTube's page on videos longer than 15 minutes says verified accounts can go further, up to 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. To fill the player, resize a video for YouTube: the page opens on the 16:9 Full HD tile at 1920 × 1080, with 16:9 HD at 1280 × 720 beside it.
X (Twitter) video size and length
X's help page on sharing videos has the shortest limit here: without a subscription, a video can be up to 140 seconds long and 512 MB. Subscribers to X's paid plans can upload videos shorter than 4 hours, up to 16 GB.
For uploads from a computer, the same page lists shapes from 1:2.39 to 2.39:1, sizes up to 1920 × 1200 (and 1200 × 1900) and at most 40 frames per second. Both 16:9 tiles fit. A 1080 × 1920 clip is 20 pixels taller than 1900, so for an upright X video sent from a computer, choose Custom, switch off Keep the proportions and type 1068 and 1900.
How to resize a video for each platform
You can resize a video to any size in this guide in your browser, without uploading it:
- Drop your video onto the page, or several to resize them the same way.
- Under Size, pick a tile: 9:16 vertical (1080 × 1920), 1:1 square (1080 × 1080), 4:5 portrait (1080 × 1350), 16:9 Full HD (1920 × 1080) or 16:9 HD (1280 × 720).
- For any other size, such as 1440 × 1800 for a Facebook feed advert, choose Custom, switch off Keep the proportions and type a whole, even width and height from 16 to 7,680.
- Under When the shape is different, choose Fill to crop the edges, Fit to keep the whole picture with bars, or Stretch, which distorts it.
- Press Resize and save the MP4. Its name ends with the new size, such as _1080x1920.
Make a horizontal video vertical
Pick the 9:16 vertical tile. Fill crops the sides of the wide picture, which suits a person talking to camera. Fit keeps it all with bars above and below, though Meta advises against Facebook reels with a border. If the subject is off to one side, crop the video to 9:16 first, move the box onto it, then resize.
Cut a video to the length limit
Resizing changes the frame, not the running time. To fit a limit, trim the video to the part you want, such as 3 minutes for a Short, or split a long video into equal parts or pieces of a set length, such as pieces under 140 seconds for X.
Worth knowing
These limits change: Facebook began sharing every video as a reel in June 2025. Every figure here was read on the platform's own page on 22 October 2026, TikTok's app limits on 25 October, so if an upload is refused, start with the page linked beside the figure.
Social media video size questions
What size are Instagram Reels?
A full-screen reel is 9:16, such as 1080 × 1920 pixels. Instagram accepts any shape from 1.91:1 to 9:16 at a minimum of 720 pixels and 30 frames per second, and Meta recommends 1440 × 2560 for Reels adverts.
How long can a TikTok be?
Up to 60 minutes for a video uploaded in the TikTok app and 10 minutes for one recorded in it, says TikTok's help centre. In TikTok Studio on the web, an upload can run to 30 minutes, as an MP4 or WebM file under 10 GB. An app that posts for you is held to 10 minutes. These are TikTok's published limits, which can vary by region and account, so check your own upload screen.
How long can a YouTube Short be?
Up to three minutes, in a square or vertical shape. An ordinary YouTube video can run to 15 minutes, and a verified account can upload up to 12 hours or 256 GB, whichever is less.
What is the best video size for LinkedIn?
A post takes any shape from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 between 256 × 144 and 4096 × 2304 pixels, so 1920 × 1080 and a 1080 × 1080 square both fit. LinkedIn's video ad specifications recommend 1920 × 1080 for 16:9, 720 × 900 for 4:5, its preferred vertical shape, and 720 × 1280 for 9:16. Keep it to 15 minutes, or 10 on a Page.
How do I make a horizontal video vertical?
Resize it to 9:16. Pick the 9:16 vertical tile (1080 × 1920), then Fill to crop the sides or Fit to keep the whole picture with bars above and below. If the subject is not in the middle, crop to 9:16 first so Fill does not cut it off.
